Choose Ohio First Scholarship Application

Program Information

Through the support of the Ohio Department of Higher Education, Capital University participates in the Choose Ohio First (COF) scholarship program. The COF scholarship program at Capital University provides additional funding for undergraduate students majoring in Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Environmental Science, Exercise Science, Mathematics, Computer Science, Nursing, Science and Mathematics Education. Transfer students are encouraged to apply. Scholarships may be renewable for four years at the undergraduate level. Funding is contingent on continued eligibility, satisfactory progress toward a degree, and available state funding.

Eligibility Criteria

New enrolled student to Capital University- starting Fall 2025
Ohio resident
US Citizen or Permanent Resident
Pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry, Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Environmental Science, Exercise Science, Mathematics, Nursing, Science and Mathematics Education
Cumulative high school GPA of 3.0 or greater
Commitment to Choose Ohio First program requirements
Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on file with Capital University’s Financial Aid Office
All students are encouraged to apply, though preference will be given to students with unmet need

The Choose Ohio First program is only for students pursuing their first undergraduate degree. Post-baccalaureate students are ineligible for this program. Only students who are in approved bachelor’s programs are eligible.

March 19, 2025, priority deadline with closing of applications on April 15, 2025

Scholarship Amount

Up to $5,200 and renewable (subject to continued eligibility and annual review of financial need).

Essay

Essay: Please upload an essay that tells us about something that got you really excited about studying and pursuing a career in a science, technology, engineering, or mathematics (STEM) field (even if you don't know what that career would be). Some ideas you could write about include:

a topic, case study, or job you learned about in school,
a lab you did in class,
a "science fair" type experience where you did an experiment or research about a STEM topic,
an experience you had outside of school that was related to a STEM field,
an experience you had at a camp, summer program, job, or internship, etc.,
an academic competition that was STEM focused.

Please include in your essay how this experience not only got you excited about studying a STEM field, but also how that experience helped to prepare you for success here at Capital University and, if applicable, for your career after Capital. Please limit your essay to 500 words or less, size 12 font.
